Ain’t Got No, I Got Life | Nina Simone

Nina Simone – Ain’t Got No,…I Got Life

I love her music, thank you for sharing Roald Michel.

Her songs are inspirational, she sees beauty while living in hell. They touch every fiber of my being, leaving me sobbing…

Brown Baby

Nina Simone

Brown baby brown baby
As you grow up I want you to drink from the plenty cup
I want you to stand up tall and proud
And I want you to speak up clear and loud
Brown baby brown baby brown baby

As years go by I want you to go with your head up high
I want you to live by the justice code
And I want you to walk down freedom's road
You little brown baby

So lie away lie away sleeping lie away singing
Lie away sleeping lie away safe in my arms
Till your daddy and you mama protect you
And keep you safe from harm
Brown baby

It makes me glad you gonna have things that I never had
When out of men's heart all hate is hurled
Sweetie you gonna live in a better world
Brown baby brown baby brown baby

Nina Simone – Images Lyrics | MetroLyrics
She does not know her beauty
She thinks her brown glory
She thinks her brown body has no glory
If she could dance naked under palm trees And see her image in the river she would know Yes, she would know But there are no palm trees in the street No palm trees in the street And dishwater gives back no images She does not know her beauty She thinks her brown body has no glory If she could dance naked under palm trees And see her image in the river she would know Yes, she would know yes, she would know But there are no palm trees in the street No palm trees in the street And dishwater gives back no image Songwriters SIMONE, NINA Published by Lyrics © Warner/Chappell Music, Inc., Universal Music Publishing Group

    1. Hi Jeff,

Hope all is well. Her words are true now as they were then…sad, how far have we really come? I have friends, good friends who are uncomfortable talking about race…. if I bring it up I’m a racist or I’m using the race card. People use the ‘white card’ all the time, it opens doors for them and it’s a card I will never be able to use and quite frankly I never want to…:).

Next time I’ll just say you have the white card you can say and do whatever you want.

      Best,
      Angela

      1. Take it from a seasoned professional, Angela, not many know how to play cards. But they know how to mess things up. Then run. Keep that in mind next time a person is shuffling the deck. The creeps and lowlifes are only powerful if you let them think they are!

          1. The trick is to let them drown in MY habits, while giving them the illusion this is enjoyable. Or simply kick their ass in such a way that they will remember the event every time they sit down.

  1. Just watch her body language and the way her eyes are branding the lowlifes and racists around her, and you’ll know what a special woman she was. Unlike is the case with many so called world healers and activists, hypocrisy was alien to her!

(This is my 5th try to get this posted, grrrrrr, but now without video urls)

      1. And to think some time ago if the url was the address of a video, the picture of the vid appeared in the comment.
