Strange Fruit by Billy Holiday

Billy Holiday Singing Strange Fruit

Billie Holiday: Strange Fruit

Southern trees bear a strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

      1. Hello I am the author of this post, I am flattered that you would find it worthy of inclusion here, I could not find a contact button to talk privately, but I did need to talk to you about the inclusion of this entire HubPages article on this page as quickly as possible.

The entire page being featured and not just a paragraph excerpt will ultimately lead to the article being slapped heavily by Google for duplicate content, it most likely will lead to it being banned on HubPages too.

The main issue is that both articles will be competing in search results and basically cancel each other out and it will lead to both articles of being punished by Google.

I have to respectfully ask you to reduce the re-blog down to no more than the first paragraph or (excerpt) or completely remove the article.

Thanks for your time, I am very appreciative otherwise.

  1. Ah, such a sweet story. And then all those insights, all that understanding.

“……..allowed me to figuratively walk in a black person’s shoes” Yeah right, I can see him stumbling in the ghetto.

“……..a chilling reminder of the way people were treated in this country……” Oh? It’s over now? Wow. That guy must be colorblind.

    “It’s a complicated issue I know,……..” No it’s not! Don’t discriminate. That’s all.

“African Americans should be given some leeway when their emotions or feelings on race issues boil over……..” Oh really? What a nice thought, eh? Condescending bullshit, that’s what it is. Remember “Castoffs and leftovers…..”? Right!

Yeah, yeah, it’s all good. I know I was a bit harsh, a bit over the top, and had too many ugly thoughts about this poor chap. Mea maxima culpa. I repent. Mr. Jason is probably a fine specimen of humanity, larded with great intentions, and purified feelings about his fellow black Americans.

Now let’s wait and see what will happen in about 15 years or so, when his son comes home, telling him that he wants to marry a black beauty from the local slum. Will there be another epiphany then?

Damn, I can be such a SOB sometimes. Yuck! I too need an epiphany or something. And soon!
