Brown University’s recent rejection of my son prompted this story. The lack of integrity displayed by these coaches is astounding. They make, break and unfairly apply RULES. Rules that should be broken. Rules that benefit coaches (adults) at the expense of high school students ( children). These rules are structured to harm your child and enrich them and their schools. Some (coaches) are pimps, others slave masters and most could give a shit about your child. Most disturbing is the manipulation of your child, the price of injury and repeated micro-trauma, and the favoritism –all is not meritocracy–is much like ‘the old boys network.’
Head Coach (name to follow) from Brown University visits my son at LA, promises him a position, arrangements are made to visit the campus, the coach selects another player. LA’s head coach knew all along because he unwittingly conveyed that message in an email to me. My son has no clue why he was passed over. This is the second time a coach passed over my son on visiting and talking with the coaches at LA.
There are Juniors with offers yet my son with all the accolades still waits; waiting for schools to make an offer as per protocol. Whose protocol ? I have seen starters kicked out of high school because of drugs and alcohol return the next season to start. I have also seen other players kicked out of high school permanently for less. Why? Those pesky selectively applied rules that benefit coaches and their pets ( favorites).
