I really like that quote and I’ve just been inspired this past year or so to do everything I can to remove these cerebral chains that have held me back for most of my life and not realizing it back then. The stuff I’ve been reading from Chiekh Anta Diop and W. E. B. DuBois for example really opened my eyes to African and African-American history respectively. One can certainly argue that I’ve learned more about history in those cases than most history classes. I’ve been working hard at shattering stereotypes in my fiction while also doing my best to incorporate what I’ve learned in my creative pursuits.
