NEW FCC Rules Threatens The People’s Internet
The following articles bring awareness as well as calls for ACTION. The FCC, our government, continues its incestuous relationship with big businesses to the detriment of medium and small businesses and individual users of the internet.
In essence, the new proposed FCC rules will gradually subdue, eventually remove the peoples’ voices by privatizing the internet, giving control of internet content to traditional MEDIA giants. No longer will bloggers or individuals have opportunities to be heard or to protest or increase their readers’ awareness of despiccable business practices, hospital parentectomy and police brutality, unless they are among the 1% Elite and filthy rich.
If the FCC new rules take effect, we will no longer hear cases like Justina Pelletier’s or view the many images of police brutality unless big media decides its worthy of coverage. The FCC new rule is a nuanced GAG ORDER for 99% of Americans.
Our government is showing its hand–all the cards back Big Businesses!
On Thursday and before this new proposal becomes rule and law, we need to let the FCC know the internet should remain a level playing field and a available tool for ALL VOICES, not just the wealthy. Although, currently, the internet is not a level playing field this rule overwhelmingly tips the scale and permanently removes the peoples’ voices, making us once again dependent on traditional–biased– media.
Write, call, protest– do whatever it takes– to let those in DC and the FCC know: We, the people, Object to the new proposals. Let the people help the FCC draft a new proposal!

The Federal Communications Commission is proposing rules that would kill — rather than protect — Net Neutrality and allow rampant discrimination online.
Under these rules, telecom giants like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon would be able to pick winners and losers online and discriminate against online content and applications. And no one could do anything about it.
We must stop the FCC from moving forward with these rules, which would give the green light to ISPs eager to crush Net Neutrality.

How The New Internet Rules Could Undermine Net Neutrality
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will release proposed draft rules on Thursday that will “allow content companies to pay Internet service providers for special access to consumers,” the Wall Street Journal reports, potentially undermining the principle of net neutrality on the Internet.
Under the new rules, broadband providers (ISPs) like Verizon or Comcast would be able to charge companies like Netflix or Amazon separate fees to deliver video or other services in a special faster lane on the “last mile” of broadband “that connects directly to consumers’ homes.” Content companies may then pass on those additional costs to consumers.
Net neutrality advocates quickly derided the proposed regulations. “Giving ISPs the green light to implement pay-for-priority schemes will be a disaster for startups, nonprofits and everyday Internet users who cannot afford these unnecessary tolls,” Free Press President and CEO Craig Aaron said in a statement. “These users will all be pushed onto the Internet dirt road, while deep pocketed Internet companies enjoy the benefits of the newly created fast lanes.”
In its January decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit conceded that “broadband providers represent a threat to Internet openness and could act in ways that would ultimately inhibit the speed and extent of future broadband deployment.” The Court and a former FCC commissioner suggested that the FCC could reclassify ISPs and maintain full neutrality. Republicans, however, have characterized net neutrality as “federal control of the Internet,”

F.C.C., in a Shift, Backs Fast Lanes for Web Traffic
The Federal Communications Commission said on Wednesday that it would propose new rules that allow companies like Disney, Google or Netflix to pay Internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon for special, faster lanes to send video and other content to their customers.
The proposed changes would affect what is known as net neutrality — the idea that no providers of legal Internet content should face
discrimination in providing offerings to consumers, and that users should have equal access to see any legal content they choose.
The proposal comes three months after a federal appeals court struck down, for the second time, agency rules intended to guarantee a free and open Internet.

Consumer groups immediately attacked the proposal, saying that not only would costs rise, but also that big, rich companies with the money to pay large fees to Internet service providers would be favored over small start-ups with innovative business models — stifling the birth of the next Facebook or Twitter.
The proposed rules, drafted by Mr. Wheeler and his staff, will be circulated to the agency’s other four commissioners beginning on Thursday and will be released for public comment on May 15. They are likely to be put to a vote by the full commission by the end of the year.
