On Saturday 8/9/14, 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis.

The shooting occurred around noon Saturday at the Canfield Green Apartment complex. Michael Brown was unarmed when he was shot six times and killed. Brown presented no threat to the officer’s or any other life, and use of deadly force was not immediately necessary to effect the suspects arrest. The officer not only took the life of a presumably innocent man, he endangered the lives of others by discharging his weapon multiple times in a highly populated area. We feel this shooting was unlawful under RSMO Chapter 563 Section 563.046

Darren Wilson stopped Michael Brown because he was jaywalking, not because Wilson believed him to be a robbery suspect. All we know about what happened next is that 18 year-old Michael Brown, who was completely unarmed, was shot and killed.

Wilson is under the protection of the Ferguson Police Department, which has chosen from the beginning of this case to opt for obscurity rather than transparency. The department did not reveal Wilson’s identity for nearly a week after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.
