Finding Work Using Social Media

Out with the traditional, in with the new!

With social media everything is hashtags, viz.

  • #Overseasjobs
  • #Freelance
  • #Healthcarejobs
  • #Jobseekers
  • #Patientsafety
  • #Medicalerrors
  • #Malpractice
  • # PatientAdvocates

Let’s see if any of them is worth ($ literally!) the effort.

So I decided to advertise my services through the social media.

If employers are truly seeking talent and not cronies, then why not give all qualified, skilled and talented people a chance?

Armed with my LinkedIn profile and the Buffer app, I took the non-traditional path to finding paid work.

This is my second day. So far no bites, but it’s too early to call it quits.

Follow me as I explore social media as a viable option for job seekers.

Please chime in with your experiences and suggestions. Appreciated!

      1. May your new directions, bring you the substance you seek. My watch word on all your job health concerns -is Work, Life, Balance. Be well Angela 😉

          1. Balance, homeostasis, harmony, or whatever name is given to that sleep invoking/boring concept, it’s just a mainstream scam. Integrating is a better approach. Not really great, but if could hand to people a tool against resistance to change and doing nothing to get rid of some shit in their life.

Um…..how stands “life” apart from “family” and/or “work”?

            1. Family can limit opportunities. As a single mom I am making some difficult decisions. Do I continue to live my life for my kids or start living it for me?

            2. That’s the common mainstream question, based on the idea of the greatness of sacrifice, which by itself is rooted in the tradition (demands actually) of Abrahamic religions. It should never be that choice, though.

If you choose to live for your kids, chances are it will backlash. If you choose to live for yourself, it will backlash too. Both will end with blaming and feeling guilty. So, you should never sacrifice yourself, or sacrifice your kids. Only idiots like Abraham will fall for that.

Personally I believe it should be a matter of shifting, of more and less. When my daughter was a baby, I did a lot to make her life as pleasant as possible, but made sure to take care a little bit of myself (and my Lady) as well. Her growing older, this gradually changed. Now she’s an adult, I’ll still be there for her, but certainly more in the limelight/center myself.

            3. I get pulled in all directions, never a direction that benefits my happiness. I feel doomed as my life has always been for others and never for me.

            4. Your happiness? You want to be happy? Well in that case, tell me what would make you (feel) happy. Could be a great start to finally find out what you should focus on from this day (or tomorrow) on. So tell me already!

  1. “If employers are truly seeking talent and not cronies…….” (First) mistake. Employers are not seeking online. Well, maybe a few, but most leave that to HR. And from what I saw and know, HR is filled with ignorant and/or indifferent employees. Apart from that, a lot of online seeking is done by robots. And then, oh Seeker from the Flume, all depends on how you have presented yourself to those creeps.

Ahem…….you call this the “non-traditional path”? (Second) mistake. :'(

    1. Yes, I know robots are the first filter looking for keywords. The objective here is not to actually find work but rather to get knowledge about where to look. I am optimistic. Btw, I am working on what makes me tick.

      1. You wrote: “I took the non-traditional path to finding paid work.” And now it is “…….not to actually find work…….”? Next time better check if brain is in gear, before hitting the keys, baby.

“Btw, I am working on what makes me tick.” Working? Bah! Yuck! Try flee floating, not concentrating, letting go, chilling, etc. That way, the treasures lurking in your limbic system vaults will feel more comfortable to come outside and kill the inhibitors residing in your prefrontal brain.

        1. My brain is better than ever. I also said I am still working on the resume or did you not read that part. Non-traditional does not mean throw everything I learned in the trash, but rather use that knowledge to find more effective and less traveled paths. Don’t want to be too far ahead of the pack.

My sub-conscious mind is busy, feeding the limbic system with those treasures.
Whatever I come up with you will be critical. I have many passions and I need to choose one that will generate an income. And, btw, it is very important for me to find the right balance.

          1. “Don’t want to be too far ahead of the pack.” Lmfao.

“……. that will generate an income.” See? That already is an inhibitor! First log all your passions without thinking about that income crap. When done, rank them. If done right, chances are that when acting on # 1, the money will flow in abundance. And if not? You go with the next one on your list. And……..at least you do what makes you tick.

“……..it is very important for me to find the right balance.” Give it some thought WHY that is so.

“……..you will be critical.” That’s right. It’s one of the things that makes me tick.

            1. Figure that made you tick. Again you misunderstood. Once I am thru with the list I will need to see if what makes me tick will translate into work. You did say to write everything whether it pertains to work or not.

            2. “I will need to see if what makes me tick will translate into work.” If “to see” means action, and not theorizing, speculating, or what have you, about it, I could agree.

Again: Go with # 1 on your list, and see if that one will generate some dough.

“Figure that made you tick.” Any idea why that is so?

            3. Sent prematurely, I wish to explore space. I am fascinated by what’s out there and I even have my own unscientific hypothesis. That is what I mean by getting too far ahead of the pack.

        2. You know I am coming up blank. Maybe there is no future for me. I can’t seem to get pass not liking the world I live in and not wanting to be a part of it. Any suggestions?

          1. I don’t like (most of) the world I’m living in either, and disconnected from it a long time ago. Still, up till now, I had no way to get off the planet, and, looking at it realistically, I don’t think the odds will change in my favor any time soon. So what did I do? I built (and still am building) my own world within the one I currently can’t escape. The good stuff from it (yes there’s good stuff in it too) I’m letting in, while the crap I won’t allow inside my fortress. Of course I’ve to deal with intruders now and then. Most of the time, though, the intruding party will think twice before making another attempt. And…..um……..you know what irritates these intruders the most? When I laugh at them. mock them, ridicule them, and tell them to go back to mom. That’s a better way to kill them, than to fight them in traditional ways. And in case there still has to be that fight, I’ll bring the fight to them in the ugliest way possible, using their own tools against them, making them wish they never had those tools in the first place. It’s great fun to see them getting angry, confused, losing control, not knowing what to do anymore, and in the end asking themselves that cliché question: “What just happened?”

So, if you came out blank, try picturing a world within which you would love to exist. Then create that one for yourself, knowing/accepting that it only can exist in an environment which doesn’t resonate with you at all. Building walls (mentally as well as physically) can be of great help to realize that place.

            1. I am a hopeless cause. I wonder why God blessed me with so many gifts, what a waste! Not sure why I still exist I am taking up space that could be better used by others.
