Liverpool, Capital of Culture 2008; greedy businessmen can’t wait.
The bid is announced, we aim for the heights; politicians want their name in lights.
The people rally to the call: we’re something special after all.
Liverpool humour so well-known; a wealth of talent, all home-grown.
The people of Liverpool win the day and carry the glittering prize away
But who will benefit from all this culture? The man in the street, or the business vulture?
The city centre’s the jewel in the crown; the rest of LIverpool’s falling down.
Will the new wealth ever filter through to the likes of me and you?

Culture is just that…….culture. Don’t assume it’s a good thing.
It is just that it is everything–culture…
No it’s not.
BE technical. Culture does not include genetics –exception epigenetics— but everything acquired and experienced affects us by shaping our culture,,.
That’s way too technical for me, but if, as you said, and I quote ,”It is just that it is everything–culture…”, than the title of this thread could also be: “Culture of Culture”. And that, oh Technical One, is probably not what Jane had in mind.

Jane, thank you very much for sharing your poem. A poem to “keep the “thoughtless” on their toes!” -Eva-Maria Hogrefe. While written in 2008 for Liverpool, sadly, the ‘likes of me and you’ are still been left out in the cold.
Hello … culture should be all that enriches me that I do not own yet … then maybe I make a selection of what gratifies me more, but in the meantime the curiosity, the desire to know the pleasure of knowing and not to use the knowledge to defeat the other in his ignorance .
