Immigrant Youth Shelters: “If You’re a Predator, It’s a Gold Mine”

Immigrant Youth Shelters: “If You’re a Predator, It’s a Gold Mine”

Just five days after he reached the United States, the 15-year-old Honduran boy awoke in his Tucson, Arizona, immigrant shelter one morning in 2015 to find a youth care worker in his room, tickling his chest and stomach.

When he asked the man, who was 46, what he was doing, the man left. But he returned two more times, rubbing the teen’s penis through his clothing and then trying to reach under his boxers. “I know what you want, I can give you anything you need,” said the worker, who was later convicted of molestation.

In 2017, a 17-year-old from Honduras was recovering from surgery at the shelter when he woke up to find a male staff member standing by his bed. “You have it very big,” the man said, referring to the teen’s penis. Days later, that same employee brushed the teen with his hand while he was playing video games. When the staff member approached him again, the boy locked himself in a bathroom.

And in January of this year, a security guard at the shelter found notes in a minor’s jacket that suggested an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

Pulled from police reports, incidents like these at Southwest Key’s Tucson shelter provide a snapshot of what has largely been kept from the public as well as members of Congress — a view, uncolored by politics, of troubling incidents inside the facilities housing immigrant children.”

Was this the reason Trump separated immigrant children from their families?  He wanted to make it easier for children of color to be abused, knowing abused children are perfect recruits for gangs such as  MS13.  Or did he want the children for experimentation on violent behaviors? Depriving a child of a safe, loving environment by sexually, physically or emotionally abusing them causes irreparable harm that leads to sociopathology.

According to many news reports, these immigrant children brutally and recklessly separated at the border from their families were denied human contact or affection. Now, it appears the children received affection from child predators, most of whom appear to be staff members responsible for the care of the children.

This ProPublica article is the tip of the iceberg. There are at least 3000 children who Trump intentionally placed in danger to punish their parents and convince Congress to build a Mexican border wall. Now many will never be reunited to cover-up rampant child sexual abuse by the US government.  What should be done about this?

  1. I’m at the point where I’m no longer surprised about the depravity going on. This is way too disgusting with all of this devilry going on. If this happened to European immigrants if they were in those same youth shelters, then more people would be locked up and laws would’ve been passed a week ago. Unbelievable.

    1. The entire process was an early Christmas gift to Trump’s pedophile and human trafficking friends. I imagine the US government recruited staff and agencies who agreed with their inhumane policy of separating children of color from their families. Without transparency, those children are in danger from staff hired by the US government and its contractors.

Also, if an immigrant child is classified as an unaccompanied minor, which may happen if the parent is deported, according to HHS official Steven Wagner, HHS responsibility ends once the child is turned over to a “vetted sponsor.” #Wherearethe1475

      1. Yeah, seriously. It just makes me wonder about how dubious these agencies are.

Wow! That’s just a disaster waiting to happened. The terminology is so vague and I doubt any real vetting would be happening.

        1. Hundreds of children could be siphoned to human traffickers without risk of being discovered. Trump and his administration were accomplices. Wouldn’t be surprised if Trump and his accomplices are well-paid for this crime against humanity and child abuse.
