Robert Bowers found support on Gab’s social media platform where he shared his hatred of Jews with other like-minded haters.
Gab is not the only platform that claims to support freedom of speech when the speech is violent, supportive of white supremacy and directs hatred and anger toward non-white groups. There is also Minds.com. I checked out both platforms a few months ago. Thought they might present an opportunity to reach across the aisle and understand the other side. After less than one week I erased my profile on Minds.com. I found both platforms firmly dedicated to spreading lies, misinformation, and half-truths as well as inciting anger and violence. Infowars, FoxNews, Breitbart and other popular far-right extremist groups and organizations have large followings on both platforms. The platforms gave me insight into future talking points or conspiracy theories by the far right. There is nothing but raw anger and hatred for non-whites oozing from Gab and Minds platforms. Surprisingly, both sites had large Asian followings, not sure if the accounts were real or fake.
Had Bowers not committed a crime against Jews, his profile would still be up and his hateful comments trending with likes and disgusting supportive racist responses. Gab’s CEO and founder, Andrew Torba, is full of shit. Gab caters to people like Robert Bowers as they are the foundation of the platform. They are also the people who are the most avid and vocal Trump supporters.

I wondered what the hoopla about Gab was. I had never heard of that social media platform until the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooting when it was mentioned in passing. It all makes sense now why a site like Gab would be a cesspool of hate speech since those same people would sometimes (emphasis on that last word) would be censored, un-verified, or suspended. Of course Gab’s CEO would pretend to denounce that terrorist because he doesn’t want to take more of a PR hit.
I’m am not scared off quickly, but the anger and hatred from both sites were too much. It stressed me to think about visiting the platforms. That’s when I called it quits. It was common to get threatening memes when I attempted to insert truth that contradicted the lies and hateful trash masquerading as news. There were tons of racist youtube videos denigrating Black people, Jews, Muslims, and immigrants. These videos were not the usual less than 5-minute videos but rather 2 -3 hours of videos marketed as documentaries filled with vile imagery and lies.
Sorry to hear about your experience on those sites. It must have been horrifying getting those hateful messages and seeing some of those videos. They made 2-3 hour so-called docs? Wow, they need to get a life.
It was stressful because I had no support. It seemed like me against the entire platform.
The videos were scary and deceptive. Looked like someone or some company put a lot of effort into producing them. Some videos started out seemingly concerned about Black people then pivoted to dreadful images of Black people looking and talking like animals. Some of the videos suggested slavery was the best thing that ever happened to Black people. I couldn’t get through an entire video. They were dark, mean and ugly. They also triggered anger and hatred.
On both platforms, I realized the hatred some white people have for black people runs so deep it is part of who they are.
If Trump made a comment about immigrants that day both platforms had talking points and memes ready to support his remarks. Most comments were violent and threatened immigrants. They talked about having caches of weapons and being prepared for a militia type war.
Memes ridiculed dead black bodies riddled with bullets. Comments justifying their murder. These were trending topics.
I reported a few that I felt were red flags. There was so much hate I didn’t pay as much attention to the anti-Semitic comments but it was the usual stereotypes, Holocaust denial and gas chamber wishes. If you showed displeasure or disapproval, you were attacked by cyber gangs. There was no remorse for the hatred and much support for violence.

I see. I’ve watched a bunch of documentaries of different subjects and there have been some fallacious ones out there that have shockingly good production, yet aren’t made or distributed by a mainstream company. Those videos had to have been atrocious and a sick form of concern trolling.
Oh, yeah. It’s either anonymity or having their own “safe spaces” show the depravity inside. Isn’t it ironic that the alt-right complains how the left talks about safe spaces, but get triggered whenever they can’t talk about their hatred in a consequence-free way? Also, I realized that Gab’s logo is a frog, so I can surmise that it’s a visual dog whistle for that Pepe meme.

That’s just disgusting on so many levels. I don’t see other ethnic groups doing the same thing.
This hatred and bigotry going on has to be part of entitlement or some last gasp for wanting “freedom”.

It was horrible and disgusting on many levels because as you astutely pointed out no other ethnic group does this on a public platform. The support for the ugliness and violence was nothing short of appalling.

The videos were most disturbing as Trumps’ talking points of hate and fear were the main messages. To the gullible or unsuspecting the videos might appear to be reaching out to help Black people, but their purpose was to reinforce the myth of white supremacy and indoctrinate black people into a submissive and docile role.
Based on my observation: It felt as if the platform had Trump’s support and attention. FoxNews was featured prominently on both platforms. The platforms are anatomical parts of Trump’s base. They are global, organized and technologically savvy with resources to rewrite history.
One odd observation was the number of Asians on these platforms, especially minds.com. To me, it appeared they were there to learn the culture and English which was alarming.

The hypocrisy and double standard were part of the allure that made scummy people feel entitled and almost invincible. They freely ridiculed and supported violence against non-white ethnic groups. Many bragged about the cache of weapons they had ready for us.

Yup and here are two platforms courting hatred and violence. You know I wondered how many of the members were law enforcement. The meaner and more violent the comment the more it was upvoted, liked and shared.
This is the first time I shared my observations. It was an experience. Black people should keep an eye on these platforms and others as they are harbingers of far-right rhetoric. I was concerned white supremacists went to South Africa to start trouble.
I got the impression immigration had a special meaning to white nationalist having to do with population forecast that predicts the US Hispanic population will surpass US whites over the next several decades. There is much fear about that happening. It made me understand Trump’s family separation and zero-tolerance policy had nothing to do with national security.

Of course. I can’t think of a single ethnic minority ever mock the death of a White person in any way like videos or pictures like some reverse Trayvoning.
That’s not surprising as many of them are fearmongers. It only proves me right about those documentaries being a failed attempt at concern trolling against the Black population. They WOULD regurgitate Fox News talking points and rhetoric. So there’s an Asian demographic to those sites? Come to think of it, it sort of makes sense. From an American racial hierarchy standpoint, Asians have been known as “model minorities” and don’t get discriminated nearly as much as Black people (I’m not saying they don’t face racism at all, but their experiences haven’t been nearly as severe and said discrimination has been different). You could also add how some ethnic groups have been complacent in the system of WS (see who’s expanding into Africa recently or how some Asian countries have used blackface in commercials).
It’s more than just hypocrisy or double standards, it’s just cowardice on their parts. If they had a semblance of bravery, they wouldn’t be bragging about having weapons whether they were telling the truth or not.
Given the infiltration of WS into governmental positions, it sounds like a field day for anyone with those jobs to vent out their morally repugnant bigotry. I agree that Black people should keep an eye out. WS intentionally look at conscious Black media to see what they’re saying. It’s like they want to know what their enemies are like. I remember checking one alt-right cesspool a few years ago with how they interpreted some WS implications in a mainstream movie (I won’t say which site I went on), and I was proven right with how Hollywood low-key supports these groups. I felt the same way with the whole South Africa situation and I fear Namibia might be next since they just started getting into the reclamation without compensation trend against their German colonizers who still live in the country in addition to that lawsuit against their former oppressors.
That forecast is quite believable since the Latino community is the 2nd largest ethnic group in America currently. I’ll add onto your point by the low-birth rates going on worldwide and the opioid epidemic. Shoot, in Sweden and Norway, their governments are literally PAYING their married couples to have babies right now!

Gab has culpability here. They could’ve made the choice to not allow these people from the so-called alt-right, but they embraced people from such groups.
Both platforms were created for the alt-right. They made sure comments critical of Trump were not only downvoted but the person harassed and threatened.
Yeah they encouraged that behavior.
